Embarking on a campervan adventure during the sunny summer months is a surefire way to create unforgettable memories with your loved ones. However, having the necessary equipment and supplies can make or break your trip - so, we’re here to guide you through the summer packing essentials to make your holiday both seamless and enjoyable.

Mastering the Campervan Packing List

Packing for a campervan road trip requires a delicate balance of essentials and home comforts - but fortunately, as most campervan conversions come equipped with smart storage, you’ll find that you’ve got more room for luggage than you do when travelling by plane, train or car.

The key is to pack a good blend of practical necessities alongside the items that will enhance your overall camping experience. By breaking down your packing list into distinct categories, you can tackle each area with precision and confidence.

If you’re running short on storage space, we’d also recommend putting your list in priority order - starting with the absolute essentials, moving down to the nice-to-have items that can be left behind if needed.

Important Documentation

Before hitting the road, you’ll want to make sure that your essential documents are in order. This includes your driver’s licence (and that of any others who may be sharing the driving!), vehicle registration, insurance papers and any relevant permits or passes. Additionally, if you’re travelling abroad, you’ll also want to make sure that you have your passports and any other relevant documents for the country or countries you’re planning on driving to or through.

For peace of mind, we’d also suggest scanning in or making copies of these items and keeping them safely stored both in your campervan and in a separate location. Additionally, be sure to have your emergency contact information and roadside assistance details readily available.

Sleeping Soundly

Getting a good night’s rest is very important for your campervan adventure - after all, you’re on holiday - so you want to be sure you’ll enjoy it!

Pack your most comfortable bedding, including lightweight duvets, plush pillows and cosy blankets. Consider investing in a portable mattress topper or memory foam pad to get an even comfier night’s sleep. Don’t forget window coverings or eye masks to block out early morning light, and pack earplugs to muffle any unexpected nighttime noises.

Cooking Essentials

Arguably, one of the best things about campervan trips is having the freedom to create your own delicious meals on the go. Equip your campervan kitchen with essential cookware such as pots, pans and utensils.

Additionally, be sure to pack non-perishable, versatile food items like canned goods, dry pasta and rice to pair with fresh produce and meats that can be stored in your on-board fridge.

Don’t forget reusable plates, cups and cutlery to reduce waste - and lastly, keep a supply of water, juices and other beverages on hand to stay hydrated.

Lighting

One thing many people forget to pack for campervan trips is lighting, both inside and out.

Packing a variety of lighting sources such as lanterns, headlamps and flashlights is key for a comfortable and safe trip, as well as having an ample supply of batteries or rechargeable power banks.

Consider investing in a portable camping lantern or string lights to create a cosy ambience when relaxing or eating outdoors - after all, van life is all about spending more time in nature!

Personal Items

Maintaining your personal hygiene and self care routine is essential, even on the road.

Pack your toiletries including toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo and conditioner and any necessary medications. Don’t forget to include towels and washcloths, and even a portable clothesline if you’re planning on travelling for an extended period of time.

If you’re travelling to hotter climates or during British summer time, it’s also important to remember necessary sun protection essentials such as sunscreen, hats and sunglasses, to keep you comfortable and safe in the summer sun.

Not keen on using the shared facilities of your campsite? Our AddVenture Camper has a full bathroom, ideal for feeling your best whilst on the road.

Outdoor Adventures

Ready to embrace the great outdoors? Don’t forget to pack the gear for your desired activities!

This may include items like hiking boots, swimwear and water sports equipment such as paddleboards, kayaks or canoes.

Bringing along outdoor games and sports equipment like frisbees or footballs is also a great way to relax and have fun in the evenings or during down time.

Technological Conveniences

In the digital age, many of us tend to rely on our mobile phones for everything from keeping in touch with loved ones, to getting directions.

It’s for this reason that it’s wise to pack your mobile devices, chargers and portable power banks to stay connected and entertained. Consider bringing an additional GPS device as well as using navigation apps to help you explore your surroundings.

Ready to capture some memories? Don’t forget your camera and any memory cards you may need!

Maintenance and Safety

To stay safe on the road, ensure your campervan is well-equipped for any unexpected situations.

Pack a basic tool kit, jumper cables and a roadside assistance kit including emergency contact information.

Packing for All Seasons

Whilst you may be planning to travel during summertime, we all know that the British weather can be a little bit unpredictable at times. It’s for this reason that it’s essential to be prepared for varying weather conditions.

Pack layers of clothing, including lightweight, quick-drying fabrics, as well as rain gear and warm outerwear for cooler evenings or unexpected showers.

Conquering the Cold Weather

In the event of a sudden cold spell, it’s always good to be prepared with warm, insulating layers such as sweaters, coats and gloves. Pack a portable heater or consider investing in a campervan-specific heating system to keep you cosy and comfortable should the weather take a turn.

As part of your campervan maintenance equipment, be sure to have a de-icer spray and a scraper (though we’d hope these are unnecessary during summer!).

Embracing the Warm Weather

Dreaming of soaring temperatures and sunny days? You’ll want to be equipped with cooling essentials. Pack lightweight, breathable clothing, as well as items like a travel fan, ice cube trays and insect repellent to keep you comfortable and bug-free.

Don’t forget to bring along swimwear, sunscreen and sun hats to protect you from the summer rays too!
